Visa Waiver Nomination

  • At present, Taiwan Travelers planning to travel to the United States must follow current procedures for obtaining U.S. visas.  On December 22, 2011, AIT announced that Taiwan will be nominated for entry into the U.S. Visa Waiver Program.  This nomination is only one step in visa waiver process, and there is no timeline for completion of this process.  We applaud the Taiwan people for meeting the preliminary requirements for the Visa Waiver Program.  For more information please see AIT’s Press Release regarding the Visa Waiver nomination

Visas to the U.S.

Welcome to the American Institute in Taiwan, Consular Section. Our office is located at No.7, Lane 134, Xin Yi Road, Sec.3, Taipei. The Consular Section of the American Institute in Taiwan offers a wide variety of visa services to the Taiwan traveling public.

Bearers of Taiwan passports traveling to the U.S. must have a valid U.S. visa, except for direct travel to Guam and Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). There are two primary types of U.S. visas, nonimmigrant and immigrant.

Nonimmigrant visas are issued to those who intend to enter the U.S. for a temporary stay and who intend to depart the U.S. at the end of their stay.

Immigrant visas are issued to those who wish to permanently reside in the U.S. ("green card" holders).
